My Musings on Singapore Company Formation: Part Three
Hey, there! We’ve come to another installment on Singapore company formation. For those of you who have not read my previous posts, that’s totally okay. I’ll just give you a brief recap. As my native Filipino accessories, decors, etc. Has been such a hit with my Singaporean friends, I thought of opening my own store in order to sell such products. So I decided to ask around and see if anybody could give me some useful tips about company formation in Singapore. One friend told me that I should just go and hire a firm offering company formation services while another said that instead of a company in Singapore, I should consider setting up a BVI company. Well, I actually didn’t follow any of their suggestions. I decided to do my own research and embark on the process by myself.
Have I ever told you that I absolutely love Google? Well, I do. Because it is such a useful tool whenever I do any research. So with the help of Google which led me to a very interesting website, I was able to find out the requirements for starting a company in Singapore. I had already pretty much fulfilled all of the requirements (a director, a shareholder, a minimum paid-up capital, a local registered address, a company secretary) except the most important one. Guess what? I didn’t have a company name yet! Surprise, surprise! Apparently, I needed to have my company name approved before applying for company registration. So, I started brainstorming with my friends about catchy names that would be a sure hit. I did tell them though that we should be careful not to use a name that is identical or similar to an existing company. Distasteful words should also be avoided and if I wanted to get quick approval, I should shy away from using terms like “school,” “bank,” “financial,” “media,” and “publishing” in my company name. So, are you ready to hear what name we picked? The Fun Filipina. What do you think?
